Mrs. Jenny S. Watlington

On June 13, 2021, Jenny S. Watlington of Wake County, NC, loving mother and grandmother, passed away from natural causes at the age of 71.

Jenny was born in Newport News, VA, to Mary Hinson on June 29, 1949. First married in 1965, she gave birth to her first daughter, Annette, in 1966. In 1969 she remarried the love of her life, Tom Watlington. Jenny’s second daughter, Tauynia, was born in 1973.

Jenny loved music and dancing, the beach, good Southern food, and most of all, family. Throughout her life she maintained her strong convictions regarding the responsibilities of citizenship, and took care to raise both daughters to engage fully with both civic duty and family. After Tom’s death in 1996, Jenny threw herself into being the best possible grandmother to Brittany and Kenneth.  She remained an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Garner, NC until her death.

Jenny was preceded in death by mother Mary Hinson, great-aunt Shirley Hinson, and beloved husband Tom Watlington.  She is survived by; her brother, Charles Dean; daughter Annette Watlington and spouse Rebecca Dobbs; daughter, Tauynia Wilkins and spouse Derek Wilkins; grandchildren, Brittany and Kenneth Wilkins; great-uncle, David Hinson; and a host of other relatives and friends.  

A viewing will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1433 Aversboro Road, Garner, NC 27529 at 1 PM, Friday, June 18, 2021, followed by the funeral at 2 PM.  Interment, The Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home on Thursday, June 17, 2021 or to the Church on Friday.
