Mr. Glenn Elliott Reed Jr. Obituary

Mr. Glenn Elliott Reed Jr., born September 2, 1945, passed away at his home in Raleigh, NC on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the age of 78. Glenn was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in Aiken, SC. He attended Aiken High School and would graduate from the University of South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Captain in the Vietnam War, obtaining several honors such as The Bronze Star Medal and The Air Medal. After serving his country in the U.S. Special Forces he returned back to Columbia, SC where he finished his degree and lived before eventually moving to Rhodesia, Africa where he would then serve as a Major in the Rhodesian Rifles for an extended period.  

After Rhodesia Glenn moved to Johannesburg, South Africa and retired from his military life. He went on to work in global supply chain and logistics management in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was quickly promoted to leadership and spent nearly a decade there. It is there where he met Carla Reed and they were married and had two children, Laura and Craig. In 1990 the family moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to relatives.

Glenn was a compassionate leader and served as President of Air Cargo Services (ACS) as well as several other professional roles. He retired in Apex, NC before moving in 2020 to Raleigh where he lived with his son, Craig. His last years were spent enjoying University of South Carolina sports, the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with friends and family. He was an avid reader and intellectual and always driven by a search for knowledge and truth.  

Glenn was predeceased by: his parents Glenn Elliot Reed Sr. and Frances Boyle Reed, as well as his sister Susan Reed McAleese. Glenn is survived by his children: Craig Elliot Reed of Raleigh, NC and Laura Francis Reed of Indian Rocks Beach, FL; as well as his grandchildren: Kai and Zion; and brother, Rusty Reed of Columbia, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
