Mr. Charles Lewis Yarbrough, age 84, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on December 29, 2025.
Born on July 8, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi, Charles lived a life defined by determination, service, and deep love for his family and country. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Yarbrough, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, and a devoted father to Kelli Yarbrough Mack, R. Craig Yarbrough, and Scott Yarbrough. Charles is survived by his spouse, three children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Charles often described himself as a “Renaissance Man,” a reflection of his strong work ethic and wide-ranging career that included service to the public through both government and private-sector roles across multiple states. Of all his accomplishments, Charles was most proud of his service to his country as a member of the United States Navy, a commitment that shaped his lifelong patriotism.
He will be remembered as determined, prepared, and patriotic. Charles found joy spending time outdoors exploring nature, researching history, and collaborating with others on genealogical research. He also had a lifelong love of sports and followed them with enthusiasm.
Charles described the values of faith in God, family, and country as those that were most important to him and that guided his actions throughout his life. During retirement, he volunteered his time supporting patients in the VA hospital system through pet therapy, offering comfort and companionship to fellow veterans.
Charles will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, honoring his wishes and reuniting him with his beloved child, Mandy Yarbrough, who preceded him in death. Service details will be announced at a later date.
